The Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design (ADA) is a Congressional act passed in 1990 that gave disabled people certain civil rights, and also set minimum requirements for newly constructed and redesigned public and commercial buildings. The ADA was written and passed to improve the quality of life for disabled persons, making public spaces accessible and usable to people with disabilities. – both scoping and technical – for newly designed and constructed or altered public accommodations and commercial facilities to be readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities. These construction and design standards can also apply to residential buildings.

Extra attention to detail must be spent in the bathroom, where most slip and fall accidents occur within the home. Our team installs walk-in tubs, remodels bathrooms for curbless showers, installs grip bars, adds built in shower seats, installs ADA-accessible toilets, widens doorways, and updates plumbing and electrical infrastructure to support accessible layouts.
Most doorways in houses built in California are between 28 and 30 inches wide, which will not permit wheelchairs to pass. For homes in the Sacramento area we recommend widening doorways to at least 36 inches wide. This allows wheelchairs to move through unencumbered. We also handle the framing, refinishing, and hardware on the new doorway to make it look brand new
